One of the best things about travelling has to be the unique and sometimes rare landscapes you find. Often, in places like the Grand Canyon, the Daintree Rainforest, or the Salar de Uyuni salt flats of Bolivia, the landscape itself is the destination. These ecological wonders are a fragile gift and underscore the need for conscious and light-tread tourism.
There are a number of third party certifications in Australia and globally that give their tick of approval to hotels and tour operators that meet ‘green’ travel requirements: from sustainable consumption to positive cultural and socioeconomic impact. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council acts as the self-regulatory body recognising the standards of various ecotourism organisations. Look for accommodation and tours that have a recognised certification!
